Prepare for Major Traffic Pattern Shift as New Loop Roads Near Completion in Montgomery

Drivers can expect significant—but long-planned—changes. Originally planned to open in July, Montgomery Township is preparing to activate two of the new loop roads on Friday, August 7. The roads are designed to ease chronic congestion at the Route 206 and Route 518 intersection.

With the openings of Nevius Boulevard and Bolmer Corner, township officials are beginning a public-awareness effort to help motorists understand the coming changes before they take effect.

Village Drive will also open this summer [see map], providing a connection between Route 518 and 206.

The new roads will complete a key component of the township's 2002 Master Plan, long aimed at improving safety and traffic flow in the town center.

Google Maps Update

Coordination with Google Maps and Waze has been initiated by the Montgomery Township engineering office. The new roads are already in the system but not yet activated.

No More Left Turns

Later this summer, left turns from Route 206 onto Route 518—both northbound (NB) and southbound (SB)—will be restricted. These changes are designed to ease bottlenecks at the busy crossroads, shifting turning movements to the new loop roads.

• Drivers traveling northbound on Route 206 who wish to turn left onto Route 518 will do so from Nevius Boulevard.

• Drivers traveling southbound on Route 206 will make their left turn onto Route 518 using the new Bolmer Corner loop road by traveling through the intersection and making a right onto Bolmer Corner.

• Additional southbound access to Rocky Hill will be available from Village Drive, at the Wells Fargo Bank and across from the ShopRite entrance.

Township leaders encourage residents to review maps and updates as they are released and to stay alert for posted signs as the transition approaches. With the final pieces of the loop road system nearing completion, Montgomery is moving closer to a more efficient traffic flow through one of its busiest corridors.

Several communication channels will be used to share details, including the township website, eBulletins, Nixle alerts, social media, and other outreach efforts. Temporary signs will also play a major role, giving drivers notice before the new turning restrictions and roadway patterns become active.
