Belle Mead Teen Driver Strikes Bicyclist on Route 518, Police Ticket Biker

Montgomery police and EMS responded to Route 518 near Vreeland Drive for a motor vehicle crash involving a bicyclist on Sunday, March 28 at 1:52 pm.

A police investigation revealed that Jenny Zhang, 66, of Cranbury was riding a bicycle east on Route 518 on the shoulder of the road. A vehicle traveling east operated by a juvenile male from Belle Mead struck Zhang when she entered the eastbound travel lane of Route 518 while turning left onto Vreeland Drive.


Zhang was wearing a helmet but sustained injuries requiring medical treatment. Squad 47 transported Zhang to Penn Medicine at Plainsboro. The juvenile male was uninjured, according to the press release issued by Montgomery police at 11 am on Tuesday, March 30.


The investigation found the bicyclist, Zhang, failed to properly signal the turn and was issued a summons. She is scheduled to appear in Montgomery Twp. Municipal Court.



Utility Scam Alert

Montgomery police received a report from a local business that a representative purporting to be from their utility company attempted to solicit payment for their utility bill over the telephone.


The caller provided specific information regarding the employee’s business and requested payment for an outstanding utility bill in the form of gift cards. Fortunately, the employee was savvy enough to realize their account was in good standing and this was a scam, police said. Read More

Fire in Shed

Montgomery Fire Companies 1 and 2, Montgomery EMS, and police responded to a Johnson Drive residence for a shed fire on March 28 at 2:01 pm. The homeowner had returned the lawnmower to the shed just prior to the fire. Fire Companies 1 and 2 extinguished the fire, which was contained to the shed. No injuries were reported as a result of the fire.


Brush Fire on Province Line Road

Montgomery Fire Companies 1 and 2, Hopewell firefighters, Montgomery EMS, and police responded to Province Line Road on March 27 at 3:10 pm, for a report of utility poles down and a brush fire. Upon arrival, several utility poles were knocked down from the high winds and the power lines ignited a brush fire in a field. Fire companies were able to contain and extinguish the fire. No injuries were reported. The roadway was closed for an extended period while repairs to the utility poles were completed.
