The Montgomery Township School Board voted 7 to 2 in favor of a budget that includes a tax levy increase of 6.37% for the 2026-27 school year. Even with this tax increase, the district still will have to cut $4.4 million districtwide through position reductions, facilities upgrades, services, and supplies.

An oft-repeated tale about the Blawenburg Band’s founding is probably apocryphal (often believed but unverified). But it’s such a colorful part of this beloved band’s history that it deserves retelling. Sometime around 1890 (or so the story goes), a shipping crate — as mysterious as it was heavy — arrived in the farming community of Blawenburg. It was addressed to “General Delivery” and (significantly) marked for “General Recreation.”

Collin James Diggan of Montgomery Township, NJ, died on February 19, 2026, three days before his 21st birthday. He was born in Princeton, NJ, and was an integral part of a large family that jokingly referred to themselves as “Team Diggan.”

Montgomery Township NJ police reported on April 27, 2006 the following incidents: Shoplifting at the local ShopRite, theft of a wallet, stolen packages from Montgomery residences, a brush fire, and motor vehicle charges — including a bicyclist riding at night without lights.

NJ State Police responded to press inquiries regarding the charges levied against a Montgomery High School senior, who was arrested at his home on March 17. The Montgomery News, which has been pressing for details on this case, received a press release on April 24 stating the suspect was arrested for child sexual exploitation and abuse material (CSEAM). He is charged with second-degree distribution of CSEAM, third-degree possession of CSEAM, and fourth-degree cyber harassmen

Peter Van Der Veer was a simple farmer. Born in Flatbush in 1734, he married Janetye Schenck in 1758 and soon settled on the Millstone River/Bedens Brook intersection in Belle Mead to farm and to raise his seven children.
