Families can stop by for trick-or-treating, hands-on activities, fire trucks, firefighter gear, Halloween fun and an opportunity to learn about volunteer opportunities with the Department.

“We want everyone to have a fun night, learn how to stay safe at home and get to know the volunteers who serve this community. It’s also a chance for anyone interested in volunteering to learn more about what we do and how they can get involved,” said Chief Todd Harris.

The event will also highlight this year’s Fire Prevention Week, which takes place October 4-10 and focuses on the theme, “Charge into Fire Safety: Safe Charging is a Superpower.” Sponsored by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), the campaign encourages residents to take a closer look at how they charge the many devices that use rechargeable batteries.

Lithium-ion batteries are found in many everyday devices, including smartphones, laptops, tablets, power tools, toys, bikes and more. When damaged or charged improperly, these batteries can overheat and, in extreme cases, explode.

Rocky Hill Fire Department encourages residents to: Use the right charger. Use the charging cord and adapter that came with the device. Charge on a flat surface. Avoid charging devices on beds, couches or anywhere that can trap heat. Unplug fully charged devices. Do not leave devices plugged in longer than necessary.
