In New Jersey, a primary election is a process where registered voters of a specific political party choose their party's nominee(s) for the June general election. Voting began in April via absentee ballots and ends on June 10.
Purpose: Primary elections determine which candidates from each party will be on the ballot in the general election.
Major Parties: In New Jersey, the Democratic and Republican parties are the two major parties that hold primary elections.

June 10, 2025 — Election Day

Voters must be declared with either the Republican or Democratic party to vote in the primary. Unaffiliated Voters: If you are an unaffiliated voter (not registered with a party), you can declare a party affiliation on primary election day at your polling place and vote in that party's primary.
New voters have until May 20 to register. A ballot drop box is located in front of the Montgomery Municipal Center off Orchard Road.
Democratic voters in Montgomery will vote to select two of the following four candidates this primary season to represent the party in the November General Election for Township Committee. The candidates are running on two slates:
Vincent Barragan, Healthcare Executive
Michel “Mike” Martin, Pharmaceutical Executive
Amanda Baumunk, MHS Student
Mazhar Syed, Litigation Paralegal
Two Republicans will be running unopposed in the Primary to represent their party.
Chris Venis, Small Business Owner
George DeSanctis, Retired Sanofi-Aventis Executive
The Montgomery News invited the Republican candidates — Chris Venis and George DeSanctis — to be interviewed for this article. The editor had hoped to include articles of equal length on the two GOP candidates so that Montgomery voters know the candidates.
After multiple attempts, the editor was not able to secure interviews. The Montgomery News hopes to have articles on all candidates for Township Committee in the September or October issue. The editor is available to interview the GOP candidates on their schedule.
