Shoplifting at ShopRite, Brush Fire Melts Cars, Montgomery Police Blotter

Montgomery Township police reported on April 27 the following incidents: Shoplifting at the local ShopRite, theft of a wallet, stolen packages from Montgomery residences, a brush fire, and motor vehicle charges — including a bicyclist riding at night without lights.


Shoplifting at Grocery Store

Montgomery police reported to ShopRite on Route 206 in Skillman for a report of shoplifting on April 19 at 2:20 pm. Upon arriving, Officer Kopyto met with a ShopRite loss prevention official, who had stopped Dumitru Dobre, 63, of Skillman, after he allegedly exited the store without paying for $169 of merchandise. Police arrested Dobre and transported him to MTPD HQ, where he was charged with shoplifting and released. He is scheduled to appear in Montgomery Municipal Court.

Packages Stolen from Front Steps

A Primrose Court resident in the Meadows at Montgomery development in Belle Mead reported a theft of packages from their front step on April 22. The packages contained iPhones, smartwatches, and clothes. The detective bureau is investigating.


Bicyclist Stopped for Driving without a Headlight

Montgomery Police Officer Chapkowski stopped Cameron Loyal, 21, of Belle Mead, for riding a bicycle without illuminated lights and for riding against the flow of traffic on April 14 at 1:34 am During the interaction, Officer Chapkowski discovered an active arrest warrant from Franklin Township for Loyal, who was subsequently arrested and transported to MTPD for processing. Loyal was turned over to Franklin Township Police.

Package Stolen from Apartment Building

A Belle Mead resident reported the theft of a package containing an Apple watch on April 13. When the victim retrieved the delivery package from the common area of the apartment building, the watch had been removed from the box. Police are investigating.


Lost Wallet Found, with Cash & Credit Cards Missing

A Princeton resident reported a theft of items from a wallet that was accidentally dropped in the parking lot at Princeton North Shopping Center on April 13. After realizing the wallet was misplaced, the victim went back to the shopping center and located the wallet, discovering cash, a debit and credit card missing.


Brush Fire Melts Cars in Parking Lot

Cars in a parking lot by Blue Spring Road and Princeton Avenue in Montgomery were damaged during a brush fire.

Montgomery Police, EMS, Fire Company No. 2, and the Rocky Hill Fire Company responded to River Birch Circle off Princeton Avenue for a brush fire on April 21 at 3:51 pm. Upon arriving, officers observed a mulch bed between the building and the parking lot on fire. The fire was extinguished and the cause of the fire is under investigation. The fire caused damage to two vehicles parked in close proximity, as well as damage to the siding of the building. There were no injuries reported. 


Motorist in an Uninspected Car Arrested for Outstanding Warrant

Montgomery Police Officer Chris Parlow stopped a vehicle operated by Yeury Julian-Florentino, 24, of Garfield, for driving an uninspected motor vehicle on April 14 at 4:01 pm. During the stop, Officer Parlow discovered an active arrest warrant for Julian-Florentino from Clifton. The officer arrested Julian-Florentino and transported to MTPD for processing. Julian-Florentino was issued motor vehicle summonses for Failure to Inspect and Driving While Suspended and is scheduled to appear in Montgomery Municipal Court. Clifton Municipal Court provided a new court date for Julian-Florentino.


Motorist Driving with a Suspended License Arrested for Outstanding Warrant

Montgomery Police Officer Matt Decataldo stopped a vehicle operated by Tyruice Boyer, 36, of Princeton, for driving with a suspended license on April 22 at 11:13 pm. During the course of the stop, Officer Decataldo discovered an active arrest warrant from Lawrence Township for Boyer.  Boyer was arrested and transported to MTPD HQ for processing. Boyer was issued a summons for driving with a suspended license and is scheduled to appear in Montgomery Municipal Court.  Lawrence Township Municipal Court provided a new court date for Boyer.
