Baumunk’s 3 Most Important Issues

Housing.

“Many residents are being priced out of our community. We need to stop this. I would introduce rent control measures and progressive property tax rates for homeowners, which would lower property taxes on most houses while steeply increasing mansion taxes on properties over $2 million.”

Environmental Protection.

“I would push for a local Green New Deal initiative, investing in renewable energy and infrastructure. Our current amount of 40% open space should be expanded to preserve what we love about Montgomery.”

Protecting Our Immigrant Neighbors.

“More than 30% of our residents are foreign-born. It is important to protect and defend them. Complying and allowing ICE to detain legal residents should never be accepted. I would introduce a local Immigrant Trust Act.”

Why Baumunk Loves Monty

“What I love most is the people. We are a diverse group with a diverse range of opinions, and I think we need to keep it that way. Protecting access to free speech and defending our foreign-born residents will maintain this aspect of our community.”

Why are you a Democrat?

“I am a Democrat because I believe in progress and equality. The Democratic Party is focused on issues that really matter to the people of our municipality. I am running in part to keep the Democratic Party distinct from the ideology espoused by Republicans. We need progressive solutions to our issues, instead of capitulation to Republican ideals.”

What experiences have prepared you to serve?

“This past year, I’ve worked with many groups throughout central New Jersey on solutions to issues I believe are applicable to our town. One such organization is the Central Jersey DSA, an autonomous and democratically organized chapter of the Democratic Socialists of America. I helped organize a tenants union in Trenton. I hope to apply their progressive solutions to housing in our community."

"I’ve also been through the school system and I’ve watched as our township has grown and developed. I know what has been successful and what hasn’t from personal experience, and I hope to combine this with my passion for politics.”

"Also, as a third-generation Montgomery Township resident, I have a unique perspective when it comes to governing the municipality." [Her father Craig graduated from MHS in 1980 and her grandfather served as president of the Montgomery Board of Education.]
