Each month, Montgomery High School Athletic Director Kris Grundy polls local coaches to select a female and male scholar athlete to spotlight on this page. In addition to a feature article, each athlete receives gift certificates to The Tiger’s Tale and Beniamino's Cucina and Pizza. Sidney Koslow and Xavier Harrigan are The Montgomery News October Athletes of the Month.

There is not much Xavier Harrigan (No. 6) doesn’t do for the Montgomery football team. Head Coach Sean Carty deploys the senior as a wide receiver, running back, defensive back, kick returner, and punt returner. He would probably drive the bus for road games if permitted, too.

Sidney Koslow started playing volleyball in eighth grade when a couple of friends introduced her to the game. It wasn’t long before Koslow found herself on Coach Lauren Matlack’s varsity team. After a strong debut campaign and joining a club program, Koslow had her eyes set on that sophomore year leap. That was all stripped away from her when she tore her ACL at Nationals in Florida.

In addition, Montgomery school officials expressed interest in a parcel of vacant land next to the high school.
