Police Blotter: Garage Fire, Motorcycle Crash, Missing Person Found, and Autism Awareness

Improperly discarded ashes from a fire pit appear to have ignited a Belle Mead resident's garage on Sunday, March 29 at 6:30 pm. Luckily, the residents were all safe, and not displaced from their home, police said.


The a fire pit had been burning earlier in the day. When Montgomery police, Montgomery Fire Companies 1 and 2, Rocky Hill Fire Company, and Montgomery EMS responded to the Bridgepoint Road residence for a reported fire, officers observed an active flames on the side of the garage.

Deer Crossing the Road Leads Motorcycle Crash on Hollow Road

Montgomery police and Montgomery EMS responded to Hollow Road near Servis Road for a motorcycle crash on Monday, March 31 at 6:40 am. A 38-year-old male from Washington, NJ was riding a Harley Davidson motorcycle south on Hollow Road when a deer entered the roadway, causing the motorcyclist to crash. Montgomery EMS transported the motorcyclist to Robert Wood Johnson Hospital for treatment of road rash injuries, police said.



The Hollow Road accident is the second motorcycle crash in 11 days on Montgomery Township roads. A 32-year-old Harley Davidson motorcycle rider died from his injuries on March 24, days after colliding with a pickup truck on East Mountain Road in Montgomery Township on March 20. Police are still investing the cause of that accident. (See story link above).

Missing Person Found in Belle Mead

Montgomery Township Police Officer Oksana Kopyto located an adult individual that was reported missing from Hillsborough while conducting a premise check at Montgomery Place on March 25, police said. Hillsborough Police were contacted and responded to the shopping center.


Autism Acceptance Month

Montgomery police officers will display a special badge on their outer carriers in support of Autism Acceptance Month, which begins April 1. Officers will don a blue badge specially designed to support autism awareness.  The badges will be worn in conjunction with autism support magnets on the rear of the patrol cars.  An image of the badge is shown below.
