On Wednesday morning, July 1, Manny Pujols was scrambling up a ladder, defying both gravity and the simmering summer heat, a brand-new American flag draped over his shoulder.

“One of the first things we wanted to do was put the flag up,” he said, beaming like the sun itself.

It was a landmark moment for Pujols Roofing & Siding and its brother and sister co-owners Manny and Gisendry Pujols.

Originally from the Dominican Republic, the Pujols emigrated to the United States when Manny was in high school. He and Gisendry worked for other employers before they “joined forces as a family” to start their home improvement business. Pujols Roofing & Siding was originally headquartered in Morrisville, Pa. Last November, the company took the lease on a long-vacant commercial space at 130 Washington Street and officially opened in March.

The Pujols were no strangers to Rocky Hill: Gisendry worked for many years at Salon Azzurro, right across the street. The experience of living in two different countries, Manny says, “gave me a better perspective, seeing both sides.

The U.S. doesn’t care who is your dad or your mom. It is how hard you work. “If you put your heart into it, you’ll get results. I want to live here for the rest of my life, and teach this to my children.” — Manny Pujols

Recognizing that “any home project is a significant investment,” the Pujols look forward to employing their expertise and work ethic on behalf of new clients in central New Jersey.

“I’m not looking elsewhere,” Manny said, as the flag pole holder was affixed to the building and the Stars & Stripes fluttered free. “This is the greatest country in the world.”
