A solar energy company (Sustainable Strategies 2050 Inc) must stop mailing letters to Montgomery Township, NJ, landowners asking to lease their properties for “Battery Storage.”

A Skillman resident reached out to The Montgomery News, saying, "It is creepy to think people might consider contacting them to put battery storage facilities on their property."

The News reached out to Township Administrator Lori Savron yesterday, who said: "After reviewing the materials and speaking directly with the firm responsible for the outreach, our zoning officer confirmed that the use described is not permitted anywhere in Montgomery Township"

Battery Storage Units are not permitted on Montgomery Township properties.

"The firm ... has agreed to cease sending these letters to Montgomery Township residents," Savron said. "We want to reassure the community that no such facility is under consideration or review by the township."

Savron also said that, "Under our zoning regulations, residential areas allow only small‑scale energy production systems that serve the principal use on the property as an accessory use. In the Limited Manufacturing Zone, energy production may be permitted on tracts of at least 20 contiguous acres, but this applies strictly to energy production, not energy storage."

"The proposed use in this flyer does not meet the criteria for any allowable use in the township," Savron said.
