An oft-repeated tale about the Blawenburg Band’s founding is probably apocryphal (often believed but unverified). But it’s such a colorful part of this beloved band’s history that it deserves retelling. Sometime around 1890 (or so the story goes), a shipping crate — as mysterious as it was heavy — arrived in the farming community of Blawenburg. It was addressed to “General Delivery” and (significantly) marked for “General Recreation.”

Peter Van Der Veer was a simple farmer. Born in Flatbush in 1734, he married Janetye Schenck in 1758 and soon settled on the Millstone River/Bedens Brook intersection in Belle Mead to farm and to raise his seven children.

Every month or so (when I remember…) I face the challenge of administering flea and tick preventatives to my pack of dogs. The tablets are typically large, flavored, and deemed inedible by all but my Lab mix who routinely eats scraps of paper and tissues thereby rendering his opinion moot.

Four high schoolers who attend theCoderSchool in Montgomery have won the 2025 Congressional App Challenge for New Jersey’s 12th Congressional District with their app PantryLink, which connects food pantries, volunteers, and families in need.

The event, sponsored by the Montgomery Health Department, focused on educating students about the dangers of vaping and substance abuse through an engaging, hands-on learning experience.
