The five most important items on the Montgomery Township Committee's regular meeting tonight (May 14 at 7 pm) include:

  1. 2026 Municipal Budget Adoption and Public Hearing

    • Township Committee expects to adopt the 2026 municipal budget, totaling $34,733,531. This budget outlines the township's financial plan, including revenues from surplus, taxes, and miscellaneous sources, and appropriations for operations, capital improvements, debt service, and reserves.

    • The budget includes $20,270,740 to be raised by taxation and $5,961,500 allocated for municipal debt service.

  2. Introduction of Ordinance Prohibiting Data Centers and Detention Centers

    • Ordinance #26-1779 will be introduced. It would prohibit data centers and detention centers within Montgomery Township, amending the municipal code. This reflects a significant policy decision affecting land use and development.

    • The ordinance will be published and scheduled for a public hearing and vote on June 18, 2026.

  3. Final Adoption of Multiple Capital and Sewer-Related Ordinances

    • The committee is expected to adopt several ordinances, including:

      • Ordinance #26-1775: Establishing 2026 sewer capacity charges and rates.

      • Ordinance #26-1776: Appropriating $3,253,300 for various capital improvements and authorizing $3,090,600 in bonds.

      • Ordinance #26-1777: Appropriating $300,000 for sewer system improvements.

      • Ordinance #26-1778: Appropriating $122,500 for general capital improvements from the Capital Improvement Fund.

    • These ordinances support infrastructure and utility upgrades vital to township operations.

  4. Resolutions Supporting Community Events and Infrastructure

    • The committee is expected to authorize a fireworks display, waive related fire inspection fees, and approve road closures for the event. It should also approve an outdoor assembly permit for the Montgomery-Rocky Hill Rotary Club’s Run with Rotary event and approve a change order for the municipal building demolition project, increasing the contract by $53,036.

    • The fireworks display is scheduled for June 25, 2026, at Montgomery High School, with Skillman Road closed for the event.

  5. Reappointment and Tenure of the Municipal Clerk

    • Lisa Fania is expected to be reappointed as municipal clerk, obtaining tenure as per state law, ensuring continuity and experienced administration in township operations.

    • The resolution confirms her reappointment effective June 1, 2026, and acknowledges her certification and service since 2015.
