Meet the Newest Member of the Montgomery PD, SWAT Sniper Edward Zuza

Montgomery Township's new probationary police officer Edward Zuza currently serves on the Somerset County SWAT Team, where he serves as both a tactical operator and SWAT sniper.


Among his notable assignments: He was selected to assist the US Secret Service during a presidential protection detail and has participated in numerous high-risk law enforcement operations requiring exceptional professionalism, judgment, and dedication, according to Montgomery Police Chief Silvio Bet.

Zuza was sworn in at the Montgomery Township Committee meeting on June 18.


Chief Bet said, "As Ed takes this oath of office, he brings a wealth of training, experience, and a deep commitment to public service to Montgomery Township. His career reflects not only his personal dedication and work ethic but also the investment made by the Somerset County Sheriff's Office and Sheriff Darrin Russo in developing highly skilled law enforcement professionals. We are proud to recognize his accomplishments and welcome him to this next chapter of service."


Zuza's specialized training includes crisis negotiation, breaching operations, less-lethal tactics, care under fire, and mobile field force operations. He has also served on the agency's Use of Force Committee and remains actively involved in tactical response and emergency preparedness initiatives throughout the county.


He has dedicated more than 15 years to public safety and law enforcement. Throughout his career he has distinguished himself through advanced training, and specialized tactical assignments. He has served as a field training officer, firearms instructor, rifle Instructor, active shooter instructor, and OC (Oleoresin Capsicum/pepper spray) Instructor—playing a key role in preparing and mentoring fellow officers.



After graduating from the Somerset County Police Academy in 2010, Zuza began his law enforcement career in 2011 with the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office as a corrections officer.


He earned his NJ Police Training Commission certification after graduating from the Mercer County Police Academy in June 2022.
