By Barbara A. Preston | August 17, 2022

A man charged with raping two women on public recreational pathways in Somerset County was charged today with a third rape.

Rogelio Calyeca Postrero, 38, of Raritan allegedly approached a woman who was walking on a path at the Delaware and Raritan Canal State Park in Kingston. Armed with a knife, Postrero dragged her into a wooded area in Plainsboro, demanded money, then forcibly sexually assaulted her, according to the Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office. The crime occurred on September 28, 2021, between 4:30 pm and 5 pm.

Posters taped along the D&R Canal Path in Rocky Hill, Griggstown, and Kingston, as well as the Sourland Mountain Preserve in Montgomery Township, Six Mile Run Park in Franklin, and Duke Island Park, offered a $2,500 reward for information leading to the arrest of the man who committed these violent crimes.

The Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office charged Calyeca Postrero with two counts of first-degree Aggravated Sexual Assault on August 5, in connection with separate attacks that occurred on Duke Island Park in Bridgewater on July 18, 2021, and just off the D&R Canal in Franklin Township on May 16, 2022.

Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone said an investigation determined that Calyeca Postrero was also involved in the sexual assault of a female victim that occurred in the area of Delaware and Raritan Canal State Park on the border of Plainsboro and South Brunswick Townships on September 28, 2021.

Calyeca Postrero was charged with first-degree Kidnapping, two counts of first-degree Aggravated Sexual Assault, second-degree Sexual Assault, first-degree Robbery, third-degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose, and fourth-degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon.

Calyeca Postrero is being held in the Somerset County Jail pending a detention hearing on Friday, August 19.

Members of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office, the Plainsboro Police Department, the South Brunswick Police Department, the New Jersey State Police, the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office, and Raritan Borough Police conducted the extensive investigation.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Christopher Pennisi of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office at 732.745.3600,

As is the case with all criminal defendants, the charges against Calyeca Postrero are merely accusations and he is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
