Fire Destroys a Home in Montgomery Township

A fire, possibly of electrical origin, quickly spread through a single family home at 10 Regents Court in Belle Mead on Monday night. The two residents were safely evacuated.


A neighbor had dialed 911 to report smoke. Montgomery Police Lt. Silvio Bet said first responders arrived on the scene at about 7:30 pm to find the residence actively burning. Smoke from the fire was visible from Route 206.

Montgomery Fire Stations 45 and 46, Montgomery Rescue Squad, and firefighters from Rocky Hill, Hillsborough, and Hopewell responded to the scene. They were able to safely extinguish the fire, police said.


The home is owned by Jipeng Qian and Danping Fang according to tax records. Police said damage from the fire was limited to their home, which was totaled, with minimal heat damage to a neighbor's home. No injuries were sustained by the residents or responding personnel.

The exact cause of the fire is still under investigation at this time, but according to statements obtained from the homeowner, the fire may have been caused by an electrical transformer malfunction in the rear exterior of the residence.
