Standing six-foot one-inch tall, new acquaintances frequently ask Carolyn Prevost if she plays basketball. Fortunately for Montgomery High School, the answer is “yes.”
Carolyn’s name will go up on the wall in the high school gymnasium as one of eight girls in Montgomery history who have attained the status of scoring 1,000 points.
Carolyn was just named to the All-Raritan First Team while her teammates, Andrea Katramados and Bria Johnson, were named to the Second Team.
Carolyn is part of an athletic family. Her brother is Josh Prevost — the local legend for his accomplishments as a pitcher in the minor leagues for the Mets. Josh is six-foot-eight so height definitely runs in the Prevost family. She also has three other brothers, two of whom excelled at lacrosse.
Having lived in Montgomery her entire life, she has attended Montgomery public schools since kindergarten. Five of the girls on her current team have been together since fourth grade.
“We grew up together,” she says. “I got to play with my best friends for 10 years. I love them. They are part of my family.”
Now a senior, she says she had doubts about achieving her goal. “But my team kept feeding me the ball so I could get there,” she says. “I remember they gave me the ball when I had two points to go, and all went silent. I took the shot and scored!”
She recalls a burst of applause, and her teammates running over to hug her. “I actually fell over,” she said. “And I definitely cried.”
Carolyn finished the season 1,055 points and as a member of a championship team. She will play for Holy Family University in Philadelphia this autumn.
