As students return to school on Thursday, police will have an increased presence in and around Montgomery's five campuses. Drivers may notice high visibility patrol activity, increased traffic enforcement, message boards, and speed trailers to ensure safety in and around the schools. The police department will also be deploying a marked all terrain utility vehicle to patrol in and around school grounds.

"We are continuing to enhance our safety initiatives as we transition into another school year. The police department will maintain an increased presence in and around the schools using all personnel including marked patrol units, traffic officers, and detectives," the police told The Montgomery News today.

Please remain alert and cautious near school bus stops, crosswalks, and school zones. Ensuring that our schools and students remain safe is a shared responsibility. All are urged to drive cautiously and obey all traffic laws especially during school hours.

Montgomery's schools include: Montgomery High School on Route 601, Orchard Hill Elementary School on Orchard Road, Village Elementary School in Skillman Park, and the Upper and Lower Middle Schools on Burnt Hill Road.
