Planning Board to Hear Revised Plans for Montgomery Promenade — Name Changed to Princeton Promenade

By Barbara A. Preston | December 2, 2021

The Georgia-based contract purchaser of a 53.5-acre field north of Princeton Airport on Route 206 in Montgomery Township has submitted an amended site plan application for its massive retail/housing development with a Whole Foods Market. The developer now proposes to construct the development in two stages, rather than building the entire project at once.

The project, which has been known as Montgomery Promenade, will be renamed Princeton Promenade, and will go before the Montgomery Township Planning on December 13.

Montgomery Promenade as approved by the Montgomery Township Planning Board in 2018.

Approved in 2018, the project would have 1,499 parking spaces and would be the equivalent to the size of Princeton MarketFair in West Windsor. In addition to a full-size Whole Foods market, the 292,447-square-foot development would contain a combination of retail, restaurants, a movie theater, a bank, a daycare facility, and 34 single-family homes.

LL Bean, a Panera restaurant with a drive-through, and an Ulta Beauty cosmetics store also had signed on as tenants of the project.

The developer also agreed to build a loop road, to be known as Nevius Boulevard, which would connect Route 518 to Route 206 in order to ease traffic at the busy intersection.

Madison Marquette first submitted plans for a shopping center on the 53-acre Montgomery site to the township in 2005. Madison Marquette, which also owns MarketFair on Route 1 in West Windsor and is redeveloping the Asbury Park boardwalk, first submitted plans for a shopping center on the Montgomery site to the township in 2005.
