Penn Medicine to Close Fitness Center in Plainsboro / Needs Space for Medical Care Services

Princeton Fitness Center on Route 206 in Skillman may be getting busier.


Penn Medicine Princeton Health on Route 1 is permanently closing its Plainsboro fitness center, effective Saturday, December 31, at 4 pm, according to a statement on their website. Members are being asked to consider transferring their membership to Princeton Fitness & Wellness at 1225 State Road, Skillman, or to one of their other gyms.


"Additional space is required on the Princeton Medical Center campus [in Plainsboro] to meet the increasing demand for medical care and services," according to Penn medicine. "After a thoughtful and thorough strategic planning process, Princeton Health determined it must repurpose the space currently used by the Fitness Center to better serve patients and the broader community.

Princeton Fitness & Wellness Center in Plainsboro is closing permanently on December 31. Members may switch to the center in Skillman, on Route 206.


"It is with the heaviest of hearts that we notify you that our Plainsboro location must permanently close. Penn Medicine Princeton Health recently completed a thorough strategic plan, which concluded that additional space is required on the Princeton Medical Center campus to meet the increasing demand for medical care and services. Princeton Health determined it must repurpose the space currently used by the Fitness Center to better serve patients and the broader community," according to the statement.


The Krogh Outpatient Rehabilitation site will remain [open at the Plainsboro site]. Princeton Health is evaluating options to relocate hospital-based services, such as Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehabilitation, to the fitness center space and developing plans for an ambulatory care center. We appreciate the center staff’s commitment to helping individuals pursue their fitness goals over the past 10 years.”

Penn Medicine Princeton Health noted that the company has extended offers to its Plainsboro fitness staff to remain with the company. "Our hope is that your favorite trainers, Pilates instructors, group fitness instructors, and swim instructors will still be available so you can continue your training, classes, and swim routines, as well as continue to see the familiar faces you have grown accustomed to,"according to a company press release.
