Chief Bet said, “As part of our ongoing commitment to improving the overall safety of our community, our department is actively partnering with other departments and agencies. We hope the take away from the event is that while emergencies and disasters are unpredictable; preparedness is a choice we make together by Being Aware - Staying Ready - and Keeping Informed.”

Information regarding disaster and emergency preparedness planning was provided by the police department, health department, American Red Cross, and Montgomery Office of Emergency Management.

The American Red Cross recommends three key preparedness actions. Make a plan, assemble a kit, and stay informed.

  1. Make a plan to include details on how your family will communicate and reunite if separated during a disaster to include an evacuation plan with alternate routes and a home fire escape plan including a reunification destination if separated during a disaster.

  2. Assemble a kit to include food, water, medications, as well as items for pets.

  3. Stay informed – Be aware how to receive emergency messaging and alerts for your area. Download the American Red Cross App for guidance on creating an emergency plan and information on various emergency and disaster types.
