Ensured the Montgomery Township School Bus Fleet Was Safe for Students

Christopher Joseph Sheridan, 69, dedicated many years to the Montgomery Township School District, working in the transportation department maintaining the school bus fleet until his retirement in 2010. He died peacefully on January 3.

Chris was deeply committed to serving his community. A lifelong volunteer firefighter, he proudly served with Hillsborough Fire Company No. 2 and held the position of Fire Chief during 1986 and 1987.

Chris was the ultimate problem-solver and the family’s go-to person whenever help was needed. After being blessed with the ultimate gift—a heart transplant in 2009—he embraced life fully, traveling and spending cherished time with family. Despite facing many physical setbacks, he always maintained resilience and a consistently positive attitude.

Chris met his wife Patricia in 1975. Over the years, they built a beautiful life, raising a family that included his children, Catherine Fortwengler (Eric), and Allison Sheridan, and cherishing his grandchildren, Audrey, Olivia, and Charlotte.

Chris was blessed with a large family, including his siblings: Donna Sheridan; Mary Rogers (Ken); John Sheridan (Cindy); Colleen Lavoie (Tim); Kathleen Machusak (Jeff); and Jennifer Sheridan; as well as John Shockley (Linda), Michael Shockley (Lori), Diane Stahl (John), and Robert Shockley. He was also a beloved uncle to many nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews.

Chris is predeceased by his parents, Alice and Joseph Sheridan, his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Catherine and John Shockley, and granddaughter Madilyn Fortwengler.

With an easy ability to laugh at himself and bring laughter to others, all who knew him will deeply miss his presence, his laughter, and the joy he brought to everyone around him.

He was laid to rest in the Rocky Hill Cemetery, 129 Montgomery Rd, Rocky Hill, NJ 08553
