Montgomery Baseball Coach Peter Mueller Achieves 300 Career Wins

Montgomery High School Head Baseball Coach Peter Mueller is having a good month.


First, his senior pitcher, John Donahue, broke the school record of 148 Career Strikeouts! [>>Read the Montgomery News May Athlete of the Month].


Next, Coach Mueller reached an incredible milestone — 300 wins as head coach of the Montgomery Cougars Baseball Team.

MHS Principal Heather Pino praised Coach Mueller. "His leadership, dedication, and love for the game have shaped generations of athletes, and this achievement is a testament to his hard work and passion. The Cougar family is proud beyond words."


Mueller has led the varsity Montgomery Cougars for 27 seasons (23 as head coach). After serving as the JV coach at Montgomery High School in Skillman, Mueller took over the reins of the varsity program in 2002 and currently continues in this position.


Mueller has led the Montgomery Cougars to three Somerset County Championships (2016, 2010, 2003), a North Jersey Group III Championship (2005) and three Skyland Conference Championships (2017, 2013, 2004) in his tenure. He has been named ‘Coach of the Year’ by various newspapers in New Jersey seven times. His career record at the helm is currently 263 – 216 (.549), according to his biography on the school website.


He has helped send many of his players to play college baseball and has had four players drafted.

Mueller was a two-sport athlete at Ridge High School (Basking Ridge, NJ), where he was an All-State shortstop for the Red Devils in 1988. He was also an all Somerset County and all Area selection in 1987 and 1988. Further, his career pitching record at RHS was 20 - 1.


In addition, he was a member of three New Jersey state championship teams during his playing days. He won the Little League state championship in 1981, a Babe Ruth state championship in 1985, and an overall high school state championship in 1987.

Coach Mueller lives in the Clinton area with his wife Kerry, son James, and daughters Caroline and Catherine.


According to the school website, Mueller teaches TV Production I and Radio Broadcasting. His students learn the basics of TV pre-production (planning), production (filming), and post-production while completing projects such as music videos, movie previews, and TV commercials. He also teaches students the technical aspects of the radio industry.


He earned his bachelor's degree in communications and media studies from West Chester University and his master's degree in education from Marygrove College in Detriot, MI, according to LinkedIn.
