Montgomery Apartment Complex Manager Allegedly Kept $75,000 in Rent for Herself

Police arrested Yessica Gonzalez, 44, of Ewing on Tuesday, December 27 and charged her with 2nd -degree Theft by Deception, and 4th-degree Forgery for allegedly stealing more than $75,000 between 2019 to 2022 from the Montgomery Township apartment complex she had been managing.

Somerset County Prosecutor John P. McDonald stated that in August, his Special Investigations Unit was notified of suspected theft by deception on the part of the property manager of an apartment complex located in Montgomery Township.


The Somerset County Special Investigations Unit determined that, during a two-year period, Property Manager Gonzalez had been renting out apartments in the complex on her own, and collecting monthly rent and security deposits from tenants. She allegedly kept the money for herself.


Gonzalez is also charged with allegedly forging the owner of the apartment complex’s name on lease documents without the owner’s consent or knowledge.


Gonzalez surrendered to authorities without incident. She was lodged in the Somerset County Jail pending a detention hearing in this matter.
