Rocky Hill voters will select a mayor, and three borough council members when they go to the polls on Tuesday, November 8 (or vote early ... or vote by mail).
The terms of Mayor Bob Uhrik and Council Members Jonathan Lee, and Catherine Plunkett will expire in December. The term of Ken Rizzi will expire on Election Day. (Odd, but yes.)
Lee and Plunkett are each running for full three-year terms.
Rizzi, who was appointed to fill the unexpired term of Council Member Tom Bremner, who resigned in January, is not seeking election.
Richard Novak is running to fill the one-year unexpired term currently held by Rizzi.
No Republican candidates are running in the Rocky Hill race.
Former Rocky Hill Mayor Ed Zimmerman, a registered Republican, is running as an Independent candidate for mayor.
Two new challengers will join Zimmerman’s slate of Independent candidates — Annliese Germain and Amy Perpetua are running for three-year terms and Ivette M. Mateiescu is running for the one-year term.
The Montgomery News sent a questionnaire to each candidate to get a sense of where they stand on the issues.
The form of government used by Rocky Hill is a “weak mayor - strong council” government, in which council members act as the legislative body.
The mayor presides at meetings and votes only in the event of a tie. The mayor can veto ordinances subject to an override by a two-thirds majority vote of the council. The mayor makes committee and liaison assignments for council members, and most appointments are made by the mayor with the advice and consent of the council.
The Rocky Hill Borough Council is comprised of six members elected to serve three-year terms on a staggered basis, with two seats coming up for election each year in a three-year cycle.
The mayor earns no salary. Borough council members are also strictly volunteer, with no compensation for their service.

Borough Council meets the first and third Mondays of the month at 7 pm. Meetings have been virtual since the pandemic began. ■
