For many small business owners, managing credit card processing and payment systems can become one more complicated task added to an already busy workload.

Wingman Business Solutions aims to solve this problem.

Founded by U.S. Marine Corps veteran Jay Neagle, the company helps businesses better understand and manage payment processing systems, point-of-sale technology, and merchant services. Rather than promoting one specific platform, the company works as an independent consultant focused on finding solutions that best fit each client’s business.

“If a business accepts credit cards, we can help,” Neagle said. “Most owners are focused on running their business. They shouldn’t also have to become experts in payment processing.”

Wingman Business Solutions works with a wide range of businesses, including restaurants, salons, wholesalers, service providers and e-commerce companies. The company also assists with merchant cash advances, equipment leasing and point-of sale financing.

Neagle said many business owners end up using systems that may not be the best fit because they were sold a product tied to a particular brand or provider. “Sometimes businesses have the wrong system entirely,” he said. “I’m not tied to one system. I work for the merchant.”

The company’s name was inspired by Neagle’s military aviation background. In combat aviation, a wingman supports the lead pilot so they can stay focused on the mission — a concept Neagle says applies directly to small business owners.

“We’re the merchant’s wingman,” he said.

“If someone owns a bagel shop, a salon or an online store, their focus should be taking care of customers and growing the business.

“Our job is to handle the payments side so they don’t have to worry about it.”

Neagle founded the company after retiring from the Marine Corps in December 2023 following a 20-year military career. Motivated to serve after the events of Sept. 11 while attending Villanova University, he became an AH-1 Cobra helicopter pilot and eventually retired as a lieutenant colonel.

During his service, he completed deployments to Iraq and assignments around the world, including Australia. He said the Marine Corps shaped the way he approaches business relationships today.

“The military taught me to solve problems under pressure, lead with integrity, and stay focused on the mission,” Neagle said. One of the biggest frustrations he sees among business owners is some get locked into systems they do not fully understand or feel comfortable changing. Restaurant owners, for example, may worry about retraining staff or disrupting operations by switching providers.

But Neagle says understanding payment systems and processing costs can have a significant impact on profitability, especially as businesses grow. “If you’ve got a dinner rush or people trying to make a purchase at your store and you can’t take payments, that’s a huge problem,” he said. “Being able to give business owners peace of mind so they can focus on what they love doing is really rewarding.”

Neagle and his wife, Kristin, now live in Robbinsville with their three children after spending years relocating throughout the world during his military service.

His advice to local business owners is simple: periodically review your payment systems and make sure they still fit the needs of your business. “Technology and business needs change quickly,” he said.

“What worked five years ago may not be the best option today.”
