Each month, Montgomery High School Athletic Director Kris Grundy polls local coaches to select a female and male scholar athlete to spotlight on this page. In addition to a feature article, each athlete receives gift certificates to The Tiger’s Tale and Beniamino's Cucina and Pizza. Muinat Tijani and Mason Neufeld are The Montgomery News May Athletes of the Month.

Montgomery High School pitcher Mason Neufeld took to the mound in the top of the seventh in a tie game against Pingry at the Somerset Patriots’ TD Bank Park in Bridgewater on April 11. With one out in the eighth, Neufield hit a double. Then teammate Henry Maddox hit a single, bringing Neufield home, and the score to 10-9.

Senior Muinat Tijani works hard, and helped her team place 3rd in the discus relay and 5th in the shot put relay at the Somerset County Relay Championship. Through Montgomery High School’s program, and her older sister Raliat’s influence, Tijani has learned what it takes to be a competitor.

The Montgomery Township School District (MTSD) is partnering with Fairgrown Farm to introduce a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) pickup location at Montgomery High School. The farm is owned and operated by brothers James and Alex Klett, who each graduated from Montgomery High School.

The 2026 Montgomery Township budget was presented and formally introduced by Chief Financial Officer Michael Pitts at the April 16 committee meeting. The public hearing and adoption of the budget is scheduled for May 14. The total budget for 2026 is $34.7 M, compared to $35.6 M in 2025.

A solar energy company must stop mailing letters to Montgomery Township, NJ, landowners asking to lease their properties for “Battery Storage.”

NJ Attorney General Jennifer Davenport awarded a $39,295 wellness and resiliency grant to the Montgomery Police Department during the Excellence in Policing Awards Ceremony in Trenton on May 7. Montgomery was one of 15 police departments statewide that earned recognition.
