William Theodore Braukmann, 85

Former Montgomery School District Principal

Died July 11, 2022

William Theodore Braukmann, 85, known to friends and family as Ted or Bill, died in his Bethlehem, PA home on July 11. William was born and raised in Hoboken. He joined the Air Force in 1954 and served four years. He married his wife Maryann in 1962, bought their first home in Branchburg in 1964, and shared 49 years together before her death in 2012.


William attended Montclair State University, where he earned his bachelor's degree in 1963, and a master's degree in 1968. He began his career as an industrial arts teacher in Bridgewater and moved to the Montgomery Township School District in 1973. There, he held a variety of positions over the years; vice principal, principal, director of personnel, planning, and community, and director of the Montgomery Education Foundation until his retirement in 1991.


In his retirement, he enjoyed becoming grandparents with his wife. After her death, he enjoyed going to Wendy’s with his “lunch bunch,” visiting his son, daughter-in-law and grandkids at the yard, having Wegmans' hoagies with his daughter, walking his dogs Duke and Peka around the neighborhood, and meeting his great grandkids at McDonalds on Sundays to watch them play.


In 2020, he moved to Traditions of Hanover in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania where he enjoyed being part of the French club, having drinks at the bar, listening to live music, and having lunch and dinner with his newest friends.


He is preceded in death by his parents Willy and Charlotte Braukmann, and younger brother Walter Braukmann. He is survived by his son Bill (and Kimberly) Braukmann; daughter Tracy Gebhart; grandchildren Casey (and Michael), Creyer, EJ Gebhart (and Ashley), Jessica (and Ted) Millard, Billy (and Kimberly) Braukmann; and five great grandchildren; Joseph, Daniel, Mason, Augustine, and Brantley.

Calling hours will be held at Bruce Van Arsdale Funeral Home, located at 611 N. Gaston Ave, Somerville New Jersey, 08876 on Tuesday, July 19 from 2-4 pm and 7- 9pm. Burial will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery in Brooklyn, New York on Wednesday, July 20.
