William E. Schweizer Jr of Owego, New York died on August 20, at the age of 99.
He is survived by his wife Rita; his four children: Bill 3rd (Susan); Candy Willis (Pete) of Montgomery Township; Curtis Schweizer (Jan); and Laird Schweizer (Ann); his six stepchildren: Pamela Feeney (Jerry), Dale Gould (Donna), Cindy Conway (Kevin), Mark Gould (Debbie), Douglas Gould (Suzanne), and Timothy Gould (Dawn), his sister-in-law Bernice Schweizer, 24 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his parents Captain William E. and Beatrice R. Schweizer, brother John Schweizer, sister Betty and brother-in-law Joseph Shewski.
A graduate of the University of Iowa with a degree in mechanical engineering, he served in the US Army Corps of Engineers during WWII. He retired from IBM after 37 years as development engineer and program manager.
An avid fitness advocate, Schweizer, at age 62, began competing in triathlons and duathlons - he held 14 world titles and 26 national titles. He was named Masters Triathlete of the Year in 1993 and Grandmaster Triathlete of the year in 1998 by the USA Triathlon governing body.
He served for many years on the board of directors of the Tioga County Boys and Girls Club, receiving
their Man and Youth Award in 1996.
At Bill’s request, there will be no funeral services or calling hours. A celebration of life gathering will take
