Tropical Storm Henri Floods Roads, Stalls Cars

The Montgomery Fire Department rescued a 45-year-old Pennington man from his Mercede-Benz from the flooded Griggstown Causeway area on Monday.


Police and firefighters responded to River Road (County Route 533) at at 4:45 pm to find a 2017 Mercedes-Benz GLE SUV, with the driver inside, immersed in more two feet of water from the flooded Millstone River.


Montgomery Fire Department Station 45 conducted a successful water rescue of the sole occupant, Dhiren Shah, of Pennington. Shah, who was uninjured as a result of the incident, admitted to police that he intentionally drove around the road closure barricades on County Route 533 prior to getting his vehicle stuck in the flood waters. Shah was issued a summons for driving on a posted closed road. His vehicle was later towed from the scene after the flood waters receded.

Several roads remained closed in Montgomery Township, including the Griggstown Causeway and Opossum Road. Please head the road closure signs.
