Serious Motor Vehicle Crash in Kingston

April 30, 2021

Somerset County Prosecutor Michael H. Robertson, Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Chief of County Detectives John W. Fodor and Franklin Township Public Safety Director Quovella M. Spruill announced an ongoing investigation into a serious motor vehicle crash.

On Thursday, April 29, the Franklin Township Police Department received 9-1-1 calls reporting a motor vehicle crash on Kingston Rocky Hill Road in the Kingston section of the township. Callers reported a head on collision between a Hyundai and a dump truck.

Upon arrival officers found the driver of the Hyundai, Sean Dekis, 32 years old from Trenton, unconscious, unresponsive and entrapped within the Hyundai. Firefighters responded to the scene to extricate Dekis from the vehicle. Upon being extricated he was transported to a local area trauma center by the New Jersey State Police Aviation Unit.

The factors that contributed to the crash are currently under investigation by the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Collision Analysis Reconstruction Team and the Franklin Township Police Department’s Traffic Safety Bureau.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a Mac Dump Truck was traveling southbound on Kingston Rocky Hill road when the Hyundai, which was traveling northbound, crossed over the double center line and struck the dump truck head on. Dekis was charged with driving while under the influence and remains in the hospital for treatment of his injuries.
