Patricia B. O'Brien, 86

January 21, 1935 - December 2, 2021

Patricia B. (Grogan) O'Brien, 86, died December 2 at Stonebridge Assisted Living where she had been a resident since 2018.

Patricia B. (Grogan) O'Brien

She was born on January 21, 1935 in Elmhurst, Queens, NY, the oldest child of Irish immigrants, Patrick and Susan (Durning) Grogan.

Pat graduated from the Dominican Commercial High School (All girls, Catholic School) in Jamaica, Queens. Following graduation, she worked for CBS in NYC in Rockefeller Center.

She met and married a fellow Elmhurst resident, William E. O'Brien, and the couple moved to Georgia where she worked for Shell Oil and Gas.

Bill's advancing career brought the family to New Jersey and Massachusetts; Pat was a homemaker during those years. The couple ultimately retired in Florida, until her husband's passing in 2012, when Pat returned to New Jersey to live with her son and daughter.

Pat was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels in Wharton, NJ, a member of the Red Hat Society in Dunnellon, FL, and a member of St. Charles Borromeo Roman Catholic Church; she was a devout Catholic, who enjoyed her family, her grandchildren, and the grand-dogs that lived with her - Quincy, Morgan and Grogan. She also enjoyed playing bridge and solitaire, and watching any crime show on television.

In addition to her parents and her husband, she was predeceased by a sister, Barbara. Surviving Pat, are her daughter, Susan (O'Brien) Parnes (Kenneth) of Toms River; son, Kevin Patrick O'Brien (Lisa) of Skillman; five grandchildren: twins Anna and Grace O'Brien, and Michael O'Brien of Guilford, CT; Jake and Lindsay Bouldin of Skillman; a brother, Joseph Grogan and a sister-in-law, Margaret O'Brien, both of Queens; and a niece, Maryann (O'Brien) Fontana of Long Island, NY.

A celebration of Pat's life will be held at 1 pm on Monday, January 10 at St. Charles Borromeo, 47 Skillman Road, Skillman. The family will welcome friends and family prior to the service at 12:30 pm directly at the church. A private interment service will be held at Calvary Cemetery in Woodside, Queens at a future date.

Memorial donations may be made in her memory to either St. Charles Borromeo or to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
