Mary M. Meyer, 89, of Skillman, NJ, died on Wednesday, September 30, 2026. She was born on December 22, 1936, in Princeton, NJ and was a graduate of Princeton High School. 


After graduating, she worked for Bell Telephone before she became an entrepreneur, owning Steppin Out Shoe Store in Montgomery, NJ.


After many years, she closed her store and took on a management position at Thrift Drugs, which eventually became Eckerd’s. Her last job was as a part-time teacher’s helper at Rock Book School in Skillman, where she became famous for altruism, including creating custom Easter baskets for every child. She retired at the age of 80.  


Mary was deeply devoted to her family and her many animals, who were always at the center of her life. Affectionately known as “Gma” to her grandchildren, she had an unforgettable, energetic personality and a way of making every family gathering feel special. She loved to cook and bake and some of her family’s happiest moments were spent around her table.


Mary was also a woman of strong faith and a devoted and active member of her church community. She was a Eucharist Minster at Saint Paul’s Church in Princeton, NJ. 


Predeceased by her loving husband Edward C. Meyer, parents Joseph and Francesca (Pesce) Mazzella, siblings John Trani, Joseph Trani, Benjamin Trani, Ralph Trani, Carmella McAllister, Francis Mazzella, and Natalie Trani. Mary is survived by her children Melanie Meyer and Thomas Whalley, Mark and Nancy Meyer, Wayne and MaryBeth Meyer, Denise and Mark Fernandez, Adam Levin, sister Agnes Gillman, brother and sister-in-law Salvatore and Phyllis Mazzella, grandchildren Ryan and wife Ali, Kristin, Eli, Zane and wife Bella, Quade, Hayze, Renee, Trae, Stevie, Mark and wife Kaitlyn, Ariel and husband Anthony, Tara and husband Ben, Nikki and late husband Devon, Alex and husband Mike, Brianna, Francesca, great grandchildren Hayden, Macyn, Ethan, Quentin, Zelle, Lillian, Emmett, Bode and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. 


A visitation will be held from 3 pm – 7 pm on Friday, October 9, and from 8:30 am – 9:30 am on Saturday, October 10, at The Mather-Hodge Funeral Home, 40 Vandeventer Avenue Princeton. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 am on Saturday, October 10, 2026, at St. Paul’s Catholic Church, 216 Nassau Street, Princeton, NJ. Burial will follow in the St. Paul's Cemetery.
