Mary Jacobs Neighborhood Library Grand Opening - May 13

The Mary Jacobs Foundation (MJF), in partnership with the Somerset County Library, will host a grand opening of its neighborhood library space in Rocky Hill on Saturday, May 13 from 10 am to 2 pm.

The new space occupies about a third of the building previously known as the Mary Jacobs Memorial Library, which was bequeathed to the town by Harold Jacobs in 1968 in memory of his late wife.

Mary Jacobs had grown up in Rocky Hill. She and Harold are now buried in the Rocky Hill Cemetery. “Every town needs a center,” said Cary Dawson, president of the Mary Jacobs Foundation Trustees. “The Mary Jacobs [Memorial] Library has been the center of Rocky Hill for close to 50 years.”

Brian Auger, director of the Somerset County Library, adds that he is “excited by the possibilities presented by this neighborhood-oriented library that complements the offerings of the nearby Montgomery branch.” Continued Auger, “We look forward to continuing our partnership with the Foundation and thank them for their ongoing commitments: serving the community and honoring the memory of Mary Jacobs.”

Somerset County Library Branch Manager Elizabete Pata explains that the “updated layout will provide us as staff the opportunity to tailor library services to the needs of the local Rocky Hill community.” The library staff will host tours of the newly renovated space beginning at 10:30 am, and commencing every half hour. Ten people are permitted per tour, and registration is requested at sclsnj.org/maryjacobs-opening-2023. Face painting and an ice cream truck will be available in the library parking lot.
