Gino Matticoli, 80

Gino’s Auto Body Shop

October 1, 1942- March 17, 2023


Gino Matticoli, 80, of Franklin Park, died March 17 at home surrounded by his loving family after a lengthy battle with cancer.

Gino was born in Isernia, Italy October 1, 1942. He moved to Switzerland to find work in construction and auto repair. In 1969, while visiting relatives in New Jersey, he met and married his wife, Frances. They settled in Franklin Park in 1970.


He worked at Ben’s Auto Body in Princeton until he and his brother, Vincenzo, opened their own business, Gino’s Auto Body Shop, in 1977. He loved family gatherings. For him there was nothing better than good food and good wine shared with family and friends.


He was an avid gardener. He grew his own plants and shared extras with family and friends. He liked gaming and made frequent trips to nearby casinos. He enjoyed road trips, sampling regional food, wine, and local attractions. He was especially impressed by the Great Lakes, the Ford assembly plant, and the Woodford Reserve Distillery. He was a member of Roma Eterna Society and the Free Masons.


He is survived by his wife Frances (Jackson) of more than 53 years; a daughter, Monica and son-in-law Karl Davis of Line Lexington, PA; a son, Richard and daughter-in-law Stacy of Skillman, NJ; three grandchildren, Melinda Matticoli, and Victoria and Kellen Davis; two brothers, Vincenzo and sister-in-law Michelina of Hopewell, NJ and Alfredo and sister-in-law Evalina of Isernia, Italy; three sisters, Ida Matticoli, Delfina Ferritti, and Iolanda and brother-in-law Gaetano Tortola all of Isernia, Italy; four nephews James of Pennington, NJ, Antonio of Hopewell, NJ, David of Titusville, NJ and Antonio of Kendall Park, NJ; one niece, Lucy Mason of Arizona; and many more nieces and nephews in Italy.


He was predeceased by his parents Antonio and Aurora (Rossi) Matticoli; three brothers, Michele, Carmelo, and Domenico; two sisters, Anna Ferritti and Marietta Sassi.


A Memorial Mass will be celebrated Thursday March 23, 2023 at 10 am at St. Paul’s of Princeton, 216 Nassau Street, Princeton, NJ 08542. Cremation will be private.
