Gilbert “Gil” B. Henyon, 77, of Skillman, died suddenly of a heart attack at home on September 15.
Born in Brooklyn, New York on July 23, 1943, Gil grew up in Middletown and spent summers in Vermont. He was a resident of Skillman for the last 51 years.
Gil graduated from Dickinson College with a mathematics degree under the Reserve Officers’ Training Corp (ROTC) and then performed service for the United States Army (1967-69).
He met his wife, Cindy, at Rutgers University during his master’s degree program in statistics. He joined Johnson & Johnson in New Brunswick, where he worked as a statistician for almost 30 years.
Gil was an avid gardener, fly fisherman, DIYer, jazz aficionado, audiophile, stock market investor, and enjoyed challenging projects like restoring his Alfa Romeo and building a television.
He valued and appreciated nature, especially the Green Mountains in Vermont, where he and Cindy owned a second home; orchids (he knew all of the Latin names); and birds. He enjoyed camping, canoeing and the outdoors; in his later years, he indulged in good food and wine during his international travels with his wife especially to the Mediterranean and Alaska.
Son of the late Burnet H. and Blanche (Lohmann) Henyon, he is survived by his wife of 53 years, Cynthia M. (Kichula) Henyon; a daughter and son-in-law Heather Henyon and Armen Vartanian in Dubai; a son Noah Henyon in New York; a sister Phyllis Wygovsky and her husband Paul in North Carolina; two grandsons Alec and Max Vartanian; and nieces and nephews.
Due to the pandemic, visitation and the funeral will be private. Please contact the family if you would like to attend.
