Former Montgomery Resident Indicted for Attempted Murder

Safi N. Hill, 23, formerly of Montgomery Township, was indicted today for allegedly stabbing a fellow resident in the Flagtown section of his Hillsborough Township neighborhood.


The Somerset County Prosecutor's Office reported that the indictment charges the defendant with first degree attempted murder; third degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose; and third

degree hindering apprehension or prosecution.


Montgomery Township police had arrested arrested Hill when he lived in Belle Mead, on April 29, 2021, for allegedly using a knife to stab another Montgomery resident during a dispute. Hill pleaded guilty to stabbing that man multiple times in a late-afternoon fight on a street in Montgomery Township street.

Just Got Out of Jail

For the Montgomery incident, Hill was sentenced to 180 days in county jail. He completed his term and was released in early March.


The Somerset County prosecutor reported that Hillsborough police arrested Hill on May 4, at 2 pm after an individual called 911. The victim told police that Hill attacked him, unprovoked, while the victim was walking his dog in the area in Flagtown.


The victim initially reported that Hill had punched him in the back of the head. Upon the arrival of emergency personnel, it was determined that the victim was bleeding from stab wounds to his back. The victim was transported to a trauma unit for treatment.


Detectives from the Hillsborough Township Police Department and the Somerset County

Prosecutor's Office Major Crimes Unit responded to conduct an investigation. The

Somerset County Sheriff's Office K-9 unit also responded to assist.

The matter was presented to the Grand Jury by Somerset County Acting Chief Assistant Prosecutor Robert J. Hawkes. Defendant Hill remains in the Somerset County Jail after being ordered detained pending trial by a Superior Court Judge.

The charges are merely an accusation and that the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
