Army Veteran
February 5, 2022
Donald Richard Drake, 90, died February 5 at Brookdale in Hamilton. A lifelong resident of Skillman, he worked the family farm and vegetable stand “Country Gentleman” on Route 518. He was an Army veteran of the Korean war.
An avid fan of country music, he sang in a country band and played the guitar. He admired Hank Williams, Sr. and was proud that he had the opportunity to meet him in 1952. His hobbies included chair caning and painting, the latter of which eventually led him to attend art school. Donald was a member of the New Jersey Vegetable Growers Association and the Princeton Folk Society.
Son of the late George W. and Helen Amerman Drake and brother of the late John Drake, he is survived by his wife Alberta Scott Drake; his five children: Linda Drake of East Windsor; Steven Drake and his wife Susan Sabatura of East Windsor; Thomas A. Drake of Yardley, PA; Dianne Morgan and her husband Robert Morgan of Skillman; and Barry Drake of Easton, PA; four grandchildren: Kristen Drake, Taylor Drake, Amy Drake, Tierney Drake, and several nieces and nephews.
The viewing will be held Wednesday, February 9, from 10-11 am at the Wilson-Apple Funeral Home, 2560 Pennington Road, Pennington, NJ, with funeral services at 11 am. The burial will follow at Rocky Hill Cemetery, Rocky Hill. Condolences are welcome at www.wilsonapple.com.
