Lifelong Rocky Hill Resident
June 11, 1921 — June 20, 2019
Sam Panicaro, 98, died on Thursday, June 20. He was born in Rocky Hill on June 11, 1921 to Josephine and Gennaro Panicaro and was a lifelong resident of Rocky Hill, along with his nine brothers and sisters.
Sam graduated from Princeton High School and was employed, for many years, by the Princeton University Store. He served in the United States Navy during WWII, and was an active and supportive member of the First Reformed Church of Rocky Hill.
Beloved by neighbors and friends, Sam was a remarkable source of memories and historical information for Rocky Hill. He loved sharing his stories with younger generations. His melodic whistle and friendly wave encouraged passersby to stop for a story and an uplifting chat.
He was predeceased by Beverly, his loving wife of 50 years, his parents, and his nine siblings: Nicolas, John, Anthony, Philomena, Carmine, Frank, Mary, George, and Joseph. He is survived by his son, David Panicaro; his granddaughter, Gina Panicaro; his grandson, Vito Panicaro and wife Vanessa; his daughter-in-law Barbara Panicaro; his four great-grandchildren: Jia, Ally, Rhys, and Nathaniel; and several nieces and nephews.
Many thanks to the wonderful staff of Acorn Glen who cared for him so lovingly for the past four years. Thanks to the staff of Embracing Hospice Care, who recently helped with his care.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, June 25, at Kimble Funeral Home, 1 Hamilton Ave, Princeton, from noon to 1 pm with a funeral service immediately following.
Sam will be laid to rest, with military honors, in Rocky Hill Cemetery, Rocky Hill.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Rocky Hill First Aid Squad, PO Box 175, Rocky Hill, NJ 08553, or the Rocky Hill Fire Department, PO Box 327, Rocky Hill, NJ 08553. ■
