Somerset County Freeholder 2020 Candidates
Somerset County is governed and managed by a board of chosen freeholders. The current board includes three Democrats and two Republicans. Both Republican terms expire this year.
Candidates are listed above.
Regarding the freeholders: Gov. Phil Murphy signed a bill in August to end the use of freeholder as a title. Freeholders will be retitled as “county commissioners” beginning in January.
The freeholders currently oversee 1,098 full-time employees and 144 part-time employees in 52 divisions.
Freeholders oversee higher education, road and bridge maintenance, curbside recycling, parks and recreation, employment training, social services, and recording of deeds and wills. ■
