Montgomery Hires 2 New Police Officers

Montgomery Township has two new police officers: Ryan Martinez and Shawn Dwyer. Both were sworn in at the Township Committee meeting on June 19.

Martinez comes from a police family. His father, James Martinez, served with the Princeton Police department for nearly 31 years.


Ryan graduated from Mercer County College in 2024 with an associate’s degree in criminal justice. He worked as a special law enforcement officer for the Lavallette Police Department in 2024. In June 2025, he graduated from the Ocean County Police Academy.

Dwyer graduated from Desales University in Center Valley, PA in 2015 with a bachelor’s degree in sports management. He was employed with the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office as a correctional officer from 2018 to 2024, and as a sheriff’s officer from March 2024 to June 2025.


He also served as a member of the sheriff’s crisis response team.


Police Chief Silvio Bet said, “Both Shawn and Ryan bring skills and experience with diversified backgrounds, which will be a great asset to our community.
