Matt Rosenthal, League Director of Montgomery Flag Football said: “In our 16-year history, the league has never entered any smaller local tournaments, let alone something on the level of a NFL Flag Regional tournament. “It was hard not to want to participate when it was being held practically in our backyard. “While we didn’t get the results we were hoping for, it was a fantastic overall experience for our kids, coaches, and parents to be a part of this event.”

MFFA was founded in 2005, and is an official NFL FLAG League. The five teams that participated in the tournament included: Coed: 8u, 10u, 12u, Girls: 12u and Boys: 14u. “The kids had a blast playing against the best of the best in the northeast,” Rosenthal said. “I haven’t spoken to all the teams, but I do know for sure that our 12u girls, who went 1-2 in the tournament, are already asking to participate in more tournaments to play in the summer and fall.”

MFFA draws players from more than 20 towns has always been coed. Rosenthal says he will be starting a separate girls-only division this fall. “Girls flag football is growing significantly and we want to be a part of that movement here in central New Jersey,” Rosenthal said. “Montgomery Flag Football wants to be the launching point for girls now, so by the time their high school starts a varsity program they will have the experience and skills to be successful.” Registration for the fall season of Montgomery Flag Football will open in early July.
