Elizabeth Jane “Betty Jane” Smith, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, died peacefully on December 29, 2025.

Betty Jane split her time between Skillman, NJ, and Bonita Springs, Fla, enjoying the changing seasons and building lasting friendships in both communities.

She was born to J. Preston and Jane VanArtsdalen on May 13, 1949, in Abington, PA. Guided by the values instilled by her parents, she lived her life as a devout Catholic, grounded in faith, prayer, and service to others.

She had a deep love for traveling and delighted in spending time playing Mahjong and Canasta with friends. She also enjoyed golf and had a strong passion for decorating, a talent that reflected her creativity and eye for beauty and made every space she touched feel warm and welcoming.

She especially loved spending weekends at Penn State, a place filled with cherished memories, and more recently found great joy in watching and attending Lehigh University football games.

Betty Jane will be remembered for her kindness, grace, and the love she poured into her family and friendships. Her legacy lives on in the lives she touched and the memories she leaves behind.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Betty Jane’s memory to Penn State’s THON, supporting its mission to conquer childhood cancer.

Betty Jane is survived by her devoted husband, Len Smith, with whom she shared 55 years of marriage, a partnership rooted in love, laughter, and family. She was a proud and loving mother to Michele (husband Carmine), Debbie (husband Brian), and Kevin (wife Jessica).

She is also survived by her loving brother, Edward VanArtsdalen (wife Eileen), and family.

She was a cherished grandmother to Andrew, Nick, Adrienne, Alyson, Matthew, and Ben, each of whom brought her immense joy and pride.
