Montgomery Township's annual fireworks display was a little different this year. In addition to the live band, dancing, and colorful explosions in the sky, Gen. George Washington and Comte de Rochambeau attended on horseback. Revolutionary War Fifer William Stives stood alongside Wonder Woman and Captain America as they greeted folks on a cool summer evening at Montgomery High School on June 25.
A stilt walker, juggler, and face painter completed the carnivalesque atmosphere. And, of course, fresh lemonade, funnel cakes, cotton candy, burgers, ice cream, and other treats marked the occasion.
Montgomery Parks and Recreation Director John Groeger told The Montgomery News that about 8,500 people attended this year's Rev 250 fireworks event. "The general consensus is that this was one of the more heavily attended events," he said.
Fireworks were provided by D&M Fireworks of Bally, PA, at a cost of about $25,000, Groeger said. The fireworks are once again funded by contributions from individuals, corporations, and small businesses, plus fees from vendors. Donations and grants also supported the Revolutionary War reenactors, a public mural project, an ecological garden, and permanent recognition installations. Donations are still being accepted at Montgomery Rev250/Fireworks Sponsorships.

Groeger said there was also a community show featuring event booths by Van Harlingen Historical Society (VHHS), The Stoutsburg Sourland African American Museum (SSAAM), and Montgomery Township officials. Montgomery resident Paul Blodgett was the MC of the show, which featured historic narratives from the Revolutionary War.
Groeger is already planning for next year's fireworks event. He thanks donors, sponsors, and especially the Department of Public Works, Parks and Recreation, who pull it all together, and Montgomery and Rocky Hill first responders who make it happen and keep everybody safe.
