A 12-year-old boy from Belle Mead was attempting to cross County Route 601 on his bicycle when he was struck by a car then transported to the hospital on Wednesday at 6:09 pm. The boy was released from the hospital following treatment for facial wounds.

Montgomery Township police told The Montgomery News on Thursday that the boy was attempting to cross Belle Mead-Blawenburg Road (Rt. 601) from the northbound side of the road, near Reading Boulevard, when he pulled out from behind a line of stopped traffic.

A preliminary police investigation revealed that Eunhwa Yang, 43, of Hillsborough was driving in the southbound lane of Route 601 in a 2008 Toyota Sienna. She crashed into the bicyclist while he was trying to cross the roadway.

The boy, whose name is being withheld because he is a minor, was not wearing a helmet. Police said he sustained facial injuries, and was taken by the Montgomery EMS to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick for treatment. He was later released.

The roadway was partially shut down, and traffic was delayed in the area while police investigated.
