NJ Legislative District 16 (LD-16) Senate candidates: Michael Pappas (R) and NJ Assemblyman Andrew Zwicker (D).

LD-16 includes 14 towns in Hunterdon, Mercer, Middlesex, and Somerset counties: Montgomery Township, Rocky Hill, Princeton, Hillsborough, Branchburg, Delaware, Flemington, Manville, Millstone, Raritan, Readington, Somerville, South Brunswick, and Stockton.

Voter registration in LD-16 leans Democratic — 36 percent blue and 24 percent red, according to NJ Spotlight. While unaffiliated voters used to swing the results to the GOP, this is now a split district.

LD-16 has a Republican senator and two Democratic assembly members.

The current LD-16 senator, Christopher (Kip) Bateman (R) is retiring as of December.

Assemblyman Andrew Zwicker of Kingston (South Brunswick) is running for NJ State Senate. If he wins, he would be the first Democratic senator ever to represent LD-16.

Republican candidate Michael Pappas is a Branchburg resident and former one-term US Congressman. ■
