The 2023 MHS Cross Country season is underway and it is going to be an exciting one. The team of 60-plus athletes kicked off practice on August 21 at Skillman Park under the guidance of Coach Tim Bartholomew for the boys and Coach Tom Huelbig for the girls.

Last year the Cougars had incredible accomplishments and the team is looking to do it again. The boys’ team, led by seniors Tyler Hussar, Habib Oberoi, and Max Mahoney are looking ahead to a hopeful sweep of the class meet at Thompson Park on September 23. Hussar, Oberoi and Mahoney have swept this meet both in 2021 as sophomores and in 2022 as juniors. They are hoping to once again come in one, two, and three at this meet again. Last year the boy’s team won the Central NJ Group 4 Sectional meet to advance to Groups. They’ll have a chance to defend their win on October 28 at Thompson Park this year.

The girls’ team is led by Seniors Julia Scrudato, and Zoey Doelling. Scrudato is the defending Somerset County and Skyland Conference champion. The girls are excited to welcome new talent as well this year and look for some more team wins in addition to individual wins.
