River Road in Montgomery Township was the scene of a deadly motor vehicle crash on Sunday morning.

On Sunday March 13, at approximately 7:47 am, Montgomery Police, along with the Montgomery Township Fire Department Number 1 Belle Mead, Montgomery Township Fire Department Number 2 Blawenburg, Rocky Hill Fire, Montgomery Township EMS Squad 47, Robert Wood Johnson Paramedics, and Princeton Police, responded to County Route 605 near the intersection of Blue Spring Road for the report of a vehicle fire.

On arrival first responders located a 2015 Toyota Corolla, which had impacted a tree and was actively on fire. The driver was entrapped in the vehicle due to heavy damage as a result of the crash. The driver was determined to be the sole occupant of the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene.

A preliminary investigation determined the Toyota was traveling at a high rate of speed north on Route 605 coming from the direction of Princeton, and crossed over the double center lines into the southbound lane and then ran off the left side of the roadway and impacted the tree head-on.

The roadway was closed to traffic for four hours during the scene investigation.
