Dorothy A. Slusarchyk, 79

Cherished her grandchildren

Mar 29, 1939 — Sept 20, 2018

Dorothy A. Slusarchyk, 79, died in her Skillman home surrounded by family on September 20, after a three-year battle with ovarian cancer.

Dorothy was born in Utica, NY on March 29, 1939 to Ralph and Mary Smith. She grew up on a dairy farm in Marcy, NY and graduated from Holland Patent High School in 1956. In 1960 Dorothy earned a bachelor’s degree in microbiology from Syracuse University then accepted a job at E.R. Squibb and Sons, now Bristol-Myers Squibb, in New Brunswick.

While at Squibb she met William, who became her husband of more than 50 years. After retiring in 2004, she and Bill traveled throughout Europe, Russia, and the United States — and made an annual ski trip to Steamboat, Colorado where they spent time with their son Ted and his family.

Dorothy enjoyed volunteering with the Neshanic Garden Club, where she was treasurer for many years. She enjoyed many an hour in her flower and vegetable garden, and had beautiful indoor plants she loved to arrange throughout the house.

Dorothy cherished her two grandchildren, and taught them to make pancakes, to preserve jellies, and to bake her delicious cookies.

She is survived by her husband William; son Ted and his wife Rebecca (Larsen); her sister Cindy Maxwell; two grandchildren, Logan and Lexie; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother Jay Smith. ■
