A passion for Civil War history

Jeffrey A. Skaar, 53, died in his home in Griggstown on Sep 17.

Jeff was born and raised in Belle Mead. He graduated from Montgomery High School in 1983 then earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Roger Williams College in Rhode Island.

He indulged his passion for Civil War history by reenacting with the 6th New Hampshire Volunteers and was a beloved member of their band, The Contra-Band, playing the washtub bass, whistle, and concertina.

Jeff was an active and respected member of the 12th District of Free and Accepted Masons, Grand Lodge of New Jersey. He was a Master Mason and was a Past Master of Palestine Lodge #111.

At the time of his death he was the Worshipful Master of Union Lodge #19 for the second time. Jeff was also a member of Crescent Shrine and Princeton Shrine Club.

He is survived by his parents, Victor and Vivian Skaar, brother Donald and wife Jeanne, sister Kristin and husband Jeffrey Banko, his nieces and nephew, Lucy Skaar, Christina, Jackson and Allison Banko and his loving former wife and friend Alejandra Liliana Skaar. ■
